If the litter you are looking at does not have one EIC clear parent (Exercise Induced Collapse) or if the breeder doesn't even know what EIC even is, you risk getting a puppy that will collapse during hunting or even when excited.

 Meg X AFC Tucker for good looking chocolates and blacks with natural hunting ability and an off switch. AFC Tucker has his Open Win and needs 2 pts for his FC.  He is a 90# beautiful large black who carries chocolate. All the Blacks are of course Chocolate Factored. I can guess these pups would be medium to larger, especially males. Pictures do not do Tucker justice, he has a broad head, has big bone, a beautiful tail, and slim but powerful body. Meg lives with her foster family and is heavily hunted but will have her puppies here and Tucker lives with his owner and is run in field trials. Meg is 75# and is amateur trained and actively hunted but is quiet in the blind, very affectionate, good with kids and a beautiful dark female. See female page. Meg is a full sister to my Ben SH.

Mango is #62,  she is a good hunter and is very affectionate. She turns heads and has had two pictures on a Calendar. We had a off year this year but I still plan to run her in Senior HT. These pups will be good looking and birdy and fun to run.

*Limited registration is $100 less than the Full prices. The $100 discount is so that you can use it towards your spay or neuter, if you are not planning on breeding. You may still enter any AKC event except the conformation show ring: that means obedience, agility, hunt test etc. Limited registration can still be converted to full with Hip OFA, & Elbows and CERF; CNM and EIC clearances if necessary at 2 years old plus the $100 and demonstration of responsible breeding knowledge. If the puppy would be CNM and EIC Clear and I know you or you can demonstrate responsible breeding practices, I may issue a full registration after all the health certs are done and I would like to see a SH or some type of intermediate title to show you are working with the dog.  The Power of Attorney on file with the AKC is Kathy Swab at Crosswinds Kennel who will act on my behalf if necessary on Limited Registration conversions. 641-478-3368

  I prefer to sell to homes that do not intend to breed. I will make an exception on an individual basis. Breeding has become very complicated with EIC testing; therefore, all pups will be sold with a limited registration unless I know you. If full registration is desired, and I don't know you as a breeder, you must first obtain the health certifications listed above and an intermediate title such as SH.

We will not produce EIC or CNM affected pups. An EIC carrier status does not affect their health or working ability, and is only of consequence if you want to breed. All dogs carry recessive genes that are considered Deleterious Mutations. It's like blue eyes are recessive to brown eyes in that you may have blue eyed children if the other parent also has the hidden blue eyed gene or has blue eyes.

For precautionary reasons I no longer allow viewing of puppies before their 1st vaccinations except under special circumstances. There are pictures on the nursery page. The pups are going to change dramatically anyway by the time they are ready, and their personalities are just becoming noticible by 6 weeks. This is being done to protect the health of the puppies, whether people are visiting other kennels or not since I have been told there is Parvo right in my area, an epidemic in Milwaukee and also for the privacy of the mothers.  The Moms are not themselves because Mother Nature gives them hormones to protect their babies. They don't want to meet you or your children for you to see if they are friendly.  After nursing they will not look like themselves either for a few weeks. The stud dogs are protective when there are puppies so I try to keep a calm atmosphere for the Moms. All the pups are in the house and not outside in a facility so no facility tours here. In fact if that's what you are looking for please pass by as I don't want Parvo or other diseases tracked here on clothing and shoes from another place with problems. In most cases the sires are not here either because they are picked for being a good match with the Mom. Places that always have the sire and dam are those you find in the newspaper.

Pups are picked in order deposit is received at the pick-up date so you will not know "which one" is available. If you are trying to find a duplicate of your old dog I can't guarantee what the puppies will look like and looking for your old dog is not fair to the new puppy. You must be ready to accept a new puppy as his own individual pup and you will love him for his own traits.

 Pups are born in a whelping box in my computer-TV room so I can keep an eye on them. When they are being weaned they may go to an intermediate area in the basement with a living space and separate potty area and then they are brought outside for outings or play depending on the weather. Some litters are whelped at the homes of the females' families. Pups are home raised, dewormed, vet checked, dews claws removed, first vaccination, well socialized, exposed to feathers, introduced to crates, and microchipped.

Breeding Foster Program

  I will be placing  one or two Chocolate females in 2010 in foster homes with breeding rights for several litters, and then when your obligation is finished, the foster family owns the dog.  I would like her to be placed in a hunting home, a plus would be someone interested in running at junior hunt tests, or placed with an active family, but either way she MUST be a house dog.  Preference will be given to you if you already have another dog from me, or have another dog because I will need to take the dog for health certs, breeding, and whelping (which would be a period of 5-6 weeks) and in the past people have a difficult time allowing a single dog go for that long. The foster family must live within 100 miles from me,  and must be experienced with raising hunting Labradors. You must not ever be interested in breeding the dog yourself, and there will be a contract defining the expectations and obligations of the agreement. When the contract is ended you will be expected to spay the dog as you will not have breeding rights. I will be very discriminating in her placement.  My foster homes must be real homes and families, and not just someone looking for a hunting dog or a broker. If you are familiar with whelping a litter you may be approved to whelp the litter, but you must be able to cope with changing conditions and have either a healthcare or animal husbandry background, have very good animal sense, and have access to a vet near by that takes call. If you live farther than 40 miles away it would be best if I whelp the litter because I have access to reproduction veterinarians, and it would be safer for the dog to be under their care in case complications arise.

During the winter, November-March, I may, at any time, refuse to ship by air unless the buyer flies to Milwaukee and accepts the puppy as a carry-on. This is for the safety of the puppies and because of more frequent cancellations of flights. Puppies can't be shipped when it is too how or too cold. Continental Airlines does not take dogs from Milwaukee anymore.
