Juice is Mango's half sister and is being trained for field trials. She will go back into training with Dave Ward this spring and hopefully run Quals. She is 62 pounds of solid muscle and is an animated, very good marker that enjoys training and running but is an affectionate pal on the couch and a housedog when home.

Look for a hunting dog in this litter or affectionate pups that will also be excellent family companions, especially with children. Ben loves children and puppies, and passes that quality along with classic Labrador looks with nice heads. First breeding for Blue who is a little stockier female with a nice tail and coat, powerful bone and body. She is affectionate and a good sized intelligent female, about 65 pounds. I expect these pups to be similar to both parents.  

Blue's sire, FC  Candlewoods Meet Joe Black (sire NAFC/FC Ebonstar Lean Mac X Lottie's sister FC/AFC Candlewoods Gotta Be Good) has 4 titled brothers. Joe's pups are intelligent, animated-just have wonderful personalities and are good in the house, not hyper.  His father has sired the most Field Champions in AKC history and his mother is a sister to 3X NFC Lottie.  Joe has been producing pups that are known to be trainable great hunters and companions and he has a following through the US

Ben's grandmother is my QAA bitch from Pachanga. Ben's siblings are very natural hunters. His father GRHRCH Gator Pt's Magnum Gentle Ben MH,QAA held 3 titles, passed 72 straight hunt tests, and was rated the #3 sire in HRC/UKC history at the time. Gentle Ben's full sister is the first FC/AFC chocolate female in AKC history and has produced many field champions with many different studs. Ben is now about 75 pounds (winter weight has been 82#) has great bone, is very dark, and as you can see getting more handsome every year and he also has a pleasing, happy personality. He is a square dog and looks like a Labrador should but with an all field background. His Pups make excellent hunting dogs, hunt test competitors, as well as family companions. Ben has a lot of natural hunting ability with an outstanding nose, which some times gets him in trouble in competition, but he will not quit until he digs out the birds.  He naturally stays close hunting, and is quiet as his sister in the blind.   Ben can breed and then gently play with a puppy afterwards, he loves kids, and is very extremely affectionate. Ben is siring some very natural, birdy good looking retrievers just like him that are great family dogs. See the News pages. Ben was trained for FT and HT. He went 5/5 for his Senior title. Important information about what to look for in a puppy, PLEASE READ even if you are just looking

  If the litter you are looking at does not have one EIC clear parent (Exercise Induced Collapse) or if the breeder doesn't even know what EIC even is, you risk getting a puppy that will collapse during hunting or even when excited.

A carrier is a HEALTHY DOG that will NOT show the EIC condition EVER, but is not clear for breeding purposes.

Erin's Edge will NOT produce or sell EIC or CNM Affected Puppies because one parent will always be clear.

Deposits are nonrefundable but may be applied to one other litter; however, I consider the purchase of a dog or puppy to be an adoption. I reserve the right to refuse the sale of a dog or puppy or will return a deposit to any person for any reason including misrepresentation, inappropriate home, or an impaired working relationship between the seller and buyer. Refund will be within 30 days for those reasons only.  Although I will try to find the puppy that is a fit for your family, no breeder can make a designer puppy and this is not a store mall. You are adopting one of my babies, and if you don't agree with how I do things, you need to look for another breeder you are comfortable with and agree. All payments for pups to be held or shipped must be paid and cleared one full week prior to the 7 week old date. No shipping in the winter.

I prefer to sell to homes that do not intend to breed. I rarely will make an exception on an individual basis. Breeding has become very complicated with EIC testing; therefore, all pups will be sold with a Limited Registration.  This means you can not breed them.  You may have it changed to Full Registration once the dog is 2 years old and has successfully passed all its health certifications. The health certifications are OFA hips and elbows, Eye Certification done by a licensed Ophthalmologist, and DNA testing for EIC and CNM if needed. You must also pay me an additional $200.  The dog must have attained a field title of at least AKC Master Hunter or Qualified All-Age.  Since I sell on Limited Registration,  I do not do EIC testing on puppies. If you want EIC testing on pups prior to purchase you are welcome to pay for the testing.

*With Limited registration you may still enter any AKC event except the conformation show ring: that means obedience, agility, hunt test etc. Limited registration can still be converted to full with Hip OFA, & Elbows and CERF; CNM and EIC clearances if necessary at 2 years old plus $200 and a title of at least Senior hunter, and demonstration of responsible breeding knowledge. If the puppy would be CNM and EIC Clear and I know you or you can demonstrate responsible breeding practices, I may issue a full registration after all the health certs are done and I would like to see a SH or some type of intermediate title to show you are working with the dog.  The Power of Attorney on file with the AKC is Kathy Swab at Crosswinds Kennel who will act on my behalf if necessary on Limited Registration conversions. 641-478-3368

  We will not produce EIC or CNM affected pups. An EIC carrier status does not affect their health or working ability, and is only of consequence if you want to breed. All dogs carry recessive genes that are considered Deleterious Mutations. It's like blue eyes are recessive to brown eyes in that you may have blue eyed children if the other parent also has the hidden blue eyed gene or has blue eyes.

For precautionary reasons I no longer allow viewing of puppies before their 1st vaccinations except under special circumstances. Visitations are being limited due to the possibility of cross-contamination from other kennels with a newer strain of Parvo AND for the privacy of the mothers.  I have been told there is Parvo right in my area, and there was a recent epidemic in Milwaukee. There are pictures on the nursery page. The pups are going to change dramatically anyway by the time they are ready, and their personalities are just becoming noticible by 6 weeks. This is being done to protect the health of the puppies, whether people are visiting other kennels or not, and also for the privacy of the mothers. The Moms are not themselves because Mother Nature gives them hormones to protect their babies. They don't want to meet you or your children for you to see if they are friendly.  After nursing they will not look like themselves either for a few weeks. The stud dogs are protective when there are puppies so I try to keep a calm atmosphere for the Moms.  I believe in as relaxed environment as possible and viewing puppies can be done on the website in the nursery, not in person. Pups are chosen in order of deposit, often before they are born, from people not in the vicinity, so which pups are left are not known until the previous pups have been chosen. 

All the pups are in the house and not outside in a facility so no facility tours here. In fact if that's what you are looking for please pass by as I don't want Parvo or other diseases tracked here on clothing and shoes from another place with problems. In most cases the sires are not here either because they are picked for being a good match with the Mom, often Field Champions. Places that always have the sire and dam are not always the best breedings and often those you find in the newspaper. Therefore, we do not give tours. Pups are raised in my living area, not in a kennel or other building. Pictures are in the Nursery

Pups are picked in order a $200 deposit is received at the pick-up date so you will not know "which one" is available. If you are trying to find a duplicate of your old dog I can't guarantee what the puppies will look like and looking for your old dog is not fair to the new puppy. You must be ready to accept a new puppy as his own individual pup and you will love him for his own traits.

 Pups are born in a whelping box in my computer-TV room so I can keep an eye on them. When they are being weaned they may either stay in a bigger pen with a potty box or go to an intermediate area in the basement with a living space and separate potty area and then they are brought outside for outings or play depending on the weather. Some litters are whelped at the homes of the females' families. Pups are home raised, dewormed multiple times, vet checked, dews claws removed, first vaccination, well socialized, exposed to feathers, introduced to crates, and microchipped and come with AKC limited registration unless there are previously agreed terms. Pups come with limited hip/eye guarantees.

During the winter, November-March, I may, at any time, refuse to ship by air unless the buyer flies to Milwaukee and accepts the puppy as a carry-on. This is for the safety of the puppies and because of more frequent cancellations of flights. Puppies can't be shipped when it is too how or too cold. Continental Airlines does not take dogs from Milwaukee anymore.
